Chapter 3 - The Confrontation

The blue lights of the police cruisers flooded the driveway, illuminating the facade of the house like a crime scene.
Julián stood on the porch, his face a mask of cold, controlled fury as the officers moved into the home.
Rebeca and Alejandro, who had likely been celebrating their final moves, were caught entirely off guard.
Rebeca stood by the foyer, her eyes wide with shock as the officers swarmed the house.
Alejandro attempted to flee through the back, only to be tackled by officers waiting in the garden.

The look on their faces when they saw Julián on the porch, holding the sewing box, was the only satisfaction he needed.
"How?" Rebeca whispered, her voice a hollow shell of its former haughtiness.
"You were supposed to stay in Abu Dhabi for another month!".
"I was never the one you needed to fool," Julián replied, his voice chillingly steady.
"You fooled yourself into believing I was as stupid as you are greedy".
Alejandro struggled against his cuffs, shouting at Julián to listen to reason, but he was silenced by a firm hand from the arresting officer.
The house, which had been the site of his mother's suffering, was finally purged of the malignancy that had infested it.
As they were led away, the weight of the last eight months began to lift from Julián’s shoulders.

He did not look back.
He focused on the finality of their arrests, knowing that his mother would now have the peace and justice she deserved.
