Plot twist

Chapter 2 - The Fall of the Gilded BrideThe marble floor was cool against Julianne’s cheek, but the burning sensation on her face was far worse.

The ballroom, a cathedral of crystal and silk, was utterly silent.

Julianne could hear the ragged rhythm of her own breathing.

She looked up, expecting her groom to swoop in, to defend her honor, to drag her up from the floor.

But the groom stood frozen, his face a mask of pale terror.

He knew what the rest of the room was just beginning to realize.

The man in the charcoal suit, the man who had just dismantled Julianne with a single, brutal shove, was not a guest.

He was the architect of the very wealth they were all celebrating.

"I am sorry I am late," the man whispered, kneeling before the small boy.

His voice wasn't cold anymore.

It was soft, filled with a terrifying, protective warmth.

He touched the boy’s cheek, right where the red mark of Julianne’s palm was still visible.

"Young Master," he said.

The term hit Julianne like a physical blow.

Young Master.

The maid’s son.

The "parasite."

He was not the maid’s son at all.

He was the heir.

The Fire family heir, whom everyone had whispered about, the child kept in complete secrecy for his own protection.

The ballroom shifted.

The guests didn't look at Julianne anymore.

They were looking for the nearest exit.

They didn't want to be associated with the woman who had just assaulted the future of the Fire empire.

Julianne tried to stand, her silk gown rustling like dead leaves.

"I... I didn't know," she stammered, her voice thin.

The man in the charcoal suit turned his head slowly.

He looked at her, and for a second, Julianne felt as if she were staring into the eyes of a wolf.

"Ignorance is not a defense for cruelty," he said.

He stood up, his height dominating the room.

He didn't scream.

He didn't threaten.

He simply spoke to the air, to the room, to the shadows.

"The wedding is over."

He gestured to the guards who had materialized from the walls.

"Escort the bride to her family estate. And tell her father that the Fire family has ended the business partnership, effective immediately."

The groom’s face crumpled.

"No," he whispered. "We have a contract!"

"You had a contract," the man corrected.

"You also had a duty to protect my heir."

"You failed."

Julianne watched as the world she had built—the social standing, the marriage, the prestige—dissolved in a single, quiet moment.

The music didn't return.

The laughter was gone.

There was only the sound of footsteps as the guards marched toward her.
