Plot twist

Chapter 1 - The Gates of Judgment

The iron gates swung open with a slow, mechanical groan, revealing a landscape that made the Mendozas stop in their tracks.

They had expected a desperate display, perhaps a rented venue, or a cheap attempt at a glamorous party.

Instead, they stood before a private estate that dwarfed anything the Mendoza family had ever owned.

The manicured gardens, the sprawling mansion, and the silent, imposing security detail created an atmosphere of absolute, untouchable authority.

Alejandro, his designer suit suddenly feeling like a costume, clutched at the lapel of his blazer.

Doña Victoria, whose lips had been curled in a perpetual sneer for twenty years, now stood with her mouth slightly agape, her gaze tracing the marble steps of the entrance.

“Is this... is this yours?” she whispered, the question devoid of its usual condescension.

I didn't answer.

I walked down the steps toward them, wearing a deep crimson gown that felt like armor.

Two children—my niece and nephew, whom I had kept safe away from the toxic influence of the Mendozas—stood on the steps behind me, their presence a silent, stinging rebuke to everything the family stood for.

“You think this little game will change anything?” Alejandro barked, his voice rising in an attempt to regain control.

“You’re still just the girl I ‘rescued,’ Elena. You’re nothing without our name.”

The guests behind him shifted, their murmurs of amusement replaced by a growing, palpable tension.

They were realizing, perhaps for the first time, that the hierarchy they had built their lives around was collapsing before their eyes.

I stopped just inches from Alejandro, and I saw the flicker of fear behind his bravado.

“Trash,” I said, my voice cutting through the humid air like a blade.

“Gets taken out today.”

“You can leave.”

The silence that followed was absolute, a void where their arrogance had once thrived.

Doña Victoria took a step forward, her hand reaching out as if to slap me, but she stopped, her arm frozen in mid-air by a single glance from the security guard.

“You have done nothing but treat me like a burden,” I continued, my gaze sweeping across the stunned family.

“And today, the burden is officially lifted.”

I turned my back on them, the crimson fabric of my dress swirling behind me.

“The guards will escort you to the gate,” I said, not looking back.

“You are no longer welcome here.”
