Chapter 2 - The Architect of Shadows

The ballroom was in total chaos, a scene of shattered glass and frantic shouting.
Richard stood on the stage, the projection of his own crimes looming over him like a giant, inescapable shadow.
Investors were standing up, their faces twisted with fury as they realized they had been funding a front for embezzlement.
My mother tried to approach me, her voice a desperate, frantic plea.
"You don't understand!" she hissed.
"We were trying to save the company!"
I stood up, the chair scraping against the floor in the absolute silence that followed my movement.

"You weren't saving anything," I said, my voice cutting through the noise like a blade.
"You were just waiting for a chance to take what wasn't yours."
I walked toward the exit, ignoring the people who now looked at me with a mix of fear and newfound respect.
I wasn't the helpless victim they had expected.
I was the woman who had brought the entire house of cards crashing down.
Outside, the cool ocean breeze felt like a baptism.
I stepped into the car that had been waiting for me—not a luxury vehicle, but a simple, sturdy machine that would take me to the life I had been building in secret for years.
I wasn't just wealthy.
I was free.
The legal fallout would take months, but the damage was irreversible.
I had left behind the life I had been forced to live, and I was finally ready to inhabit the one I had constructed.
As I drove away from the mansion, I looked in the rearview mirror, seeing the lights of the estate flickering and dying.
It wasn't a home, and it never had been.
May you like
It was a cage.
And I was finally the one who held the key.
