Chapter 3 - The Forensic Audit

The shadow of the first tactical guard lengthened against the concrete floor, his weapon raised in a professional, low-ready stance.

I pressed my back against the rusted shipping crate, my heart hammering so violently I was afraid they would hear it.

My hand was wrapped tightly around a heavy steel pipe wrench I had found on the maintenance bench.

"She's in the rear sector, Mr. Vance," the guard called out, his flashlight sweeping the rows of old machinery.

"The thermal sensors indicate a high-temperature signature behind the center storage crates."

Julian walked into the light, his burgundy suit dusty from the warehouse air, a silver-plated pistol held casually in his right hand.

"You always were too smart for your own good, Stella," he said, taking a slow, deliberate step toward my position.

"Your father thought he was securing your future when he demanded I sign the prenuptial agreement."

"He didn't realize that a prenuptial agreement is completely void if the wife is declared legally dead before the assets divide."

"That is what the Oakhaven facility is for; once you are sedated enough, you will sign the voluntary transfer files."

Before he could take another step, a sudden, blinding flash of white light illuminated the entire warehouse structure.

The heavy steel garage doors of the warehouse were violently rammed open by three massive federal transport vehicles.

"Federal Bureau of Investigation! Drop your weapons and step away from the victim immediately!" a voice roared through a megaphone.

Ryan stepped out of the lead vehicle, dressed in a tactical vest, flanked by twelve heavily armed federal marshals.

Julian’s guards instantly dropped their weapons, realizing they were completely outmatched by the government team.

But Julian did not drop his pistol; instead, he lunged toward my hiding place, grabbing my arm and pulling me in front of him.

He pressed the cold steel of the weapon against my temple, his breath hot and foul against my neck.

"Back off, Ryan!" Julian screamed, his voice rising into a crazed, high-pitched shriek of a cornered animal.

"I will pull this trigger, and your sister's blood will be on your hands before your men can take a step!"

"The database is already locked, Julian," I whispered, my voice completely calm as I looked past his arm at my brother.

"The federal investigators received the complete transfer logs thirty minutes before you ever reached this pier."

"Every single offshore account, every forged signature, and the video of you beating Maria has been verified."

"Your mother was arrested at the country club ten minutes ago, and your empire is already being liquidated."

Julian’s hand began to shake, the absolute certainty in his eyes evaporating into a raw, primal terror.

He looked at the armed marshals, then at the digital screen on the tablet Ryan was holding up for him to see.

The monitor displayed the official asset freeze notice from the United States Treasury, locking fifty million dollars of his family's wealth.

"You have nothing left to negotiate with, Julian," Ryan said, his voice as cold and unbreakable as iron.

"Drop the gun, and face the consequence of what you did to your family."

Slowly, the silver pistol slipped from Julian’s fingers, clattering loudly onto the concrete floor of the warehouse.

The marshals tackled him instantly, forcing his face into the dirt as they clicked the heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.

I fell into my brother’s arms, the tears finally flowing freely as the five-year nightmare was officially dismantled.

The golden prince who had tried to erase my life was being led away in chains, his perfect performance ended forever.
