Chapter 5 - The Unraveling of Phillip’s Fortune

Diana stepped between Phillip and the desk, her expression hardening into absolute venom. "We don't have time for a family lecture, Pamela. The court probate clears the estate value tomorrow. Just give us the master key to the digital vault, and we'll handle the logistics."

"There is no key, Diana," Harrison stepped forward, his calm, imposing stature instantly cutting off her advance.

"As Pamela's primary medical proxy and legal trustee, I took liberty of moving the true corporate assets to a secure state depository two weeks ago before her surgery."

Phillip’s face turned an ashen, deathly shade of grey. "What did you say?"

"Your father knew your business habits better than you realized, Phillip," I said, opening my purse to pull out the small notebook where I kept my records.

"He left this house and the controlling stock options entirely within a private medical trust. It doesn't clear through probate. It clears through me."

"And after today," I added, looking at my daughter-in-law's crumbling expression, "it will never clear for you."

Diana let out a sharp, furious gasp, turning to my son. "Do something, Phillip! Tell her she can't do this to our children's inheritance!"

"The children's inheritance is safe inside a trust they will receive when they turn twenty-five," I replied firmly. "But the house north of Atlanta? The Range Rover? The supplementary accounts you've been charging to my name? I am cutting them off before the sun rises tomorrow."

Phillip dropped his head into his hands, his shoulders shaking as the reality of his absolute ruin finally settled into the quiet room.

"Mom... please," he choked out, stepping toward my chair. "We're family."

"Family doesn't leave a mother to navigate an airport alone three weeks after her chest was cut open, Phillip," I said, turning my back to him.

"Harrison, please show them out of my house."
