Chapter 4 - THE CORPORATE INTERDICTION

The transition from a hunted fugitive to a calculated vector of institutional destruction required an absolute, silent synchronization that unfolded over the next six hours. While Julian and his security detachment were frantically scanning the empty roads outside Pinecrest Cemetery, I was already sitting in the passenger seat of an unmarked armored transport vehicle heading straight into the financial heart of the city. Beside me sat Brigadier General Alan Mercer, a legendary military logistics commander and my father's oldest brother-in-arms, his face an unyielding wall of stone as he reviewed the newly decrypted Vanguard database.

"They didn't just siphon the corporate reserves, Fiona," General Mercer said, his voice dropping into a deep, gravelly frequency that signaled the immediate activation of his federal enforcement network. "Reagan and Julian used the company's defense infrastructure contracts to mask an international smuggling syndicate routing illicit assets directly through our northern terminal docks."

"They believed that because you were locked away in a cell, because the world had written you off as a disgraced convict, the registry was permanently theirs," he added, his fingers swiping across the encrypted ledger variables. "They never realized that your father had established a secondary, non-negotiable compliance trigger that would execute a total federal seizure the moment your biometric scan hit our off-site military servers."

"I spent three years learning how to endure their silence, Uncle Alan," I replied, my eyes fixed on the flashing red indicators tracking the automated financial freezes. "Now, they are about to discover that the silence they built their empire on was actually the countdown to their own liquidation."

At exactly 9:00 AM, the international markets opened, and within forty-two seconds, the executive floor of the Vanguard Logistics headquarters dissolved into a state of absolute, unadulterated panic. The corporate trading terminals began flashing emergency quarantine warnings in rapid succession, systematically blocking every line of domestic credit, every commercial maritime license, and every asset account registered to the Mercer-Dennis network.

Inside the primary boardroom, Julian sat in his leather chair, his custom suit looking wrinkled, his hands trembling violently as he tried to access the secure administrative vault. Reagan stood beside him, her face turning an instant, pasty shade of wet ash as her premium corporate credit cards were rejected by the system one by one.

"Julian! What is happening to the asset registry?" she shrieked, her voice cracking into a high-pitched register of raw panic. "The bank just notified me that the entire Vanguard foundation has been placed under a federal treasury quarantine!"

"It’s Fiona," Julian whispered, the arrogance completely gone from his voice, replaced by the jagged edge of primitive terror. "She didn't run to the local police... she went straight to the federal judiciary."

The heavy double doors of the boardroom were violently thrown open, and I walked through the threshold, my worn canvas jacket replaced by a sharp, tailored black wool power suit. Behind me walked General Mercer, flanked by six armed federal marshals whose gold shields gleamed under the harsh LED chandeliers.

"The office is closed, Julian," I said, my voice carrying a freezing, absolute calm. "And your signature is no longer required."
