Chapter 6 - THE CLOSING CHORD

The legal decimation of the Whitmore corporate fraud moved with a swift, mathematical certainty that left no room for high-society influence.

By Tuesday afternoon, the state supreme court executed an emergency asset freeze on every single account tied to Garrett’s rebranded logistics firm.

The luxury estate in the woods was liquidated by court order to pay the massive restitution fines to the original musicians whose copyrights he had exploited.

Vanessa, his wealthy real estate partner, withdrew her investment within twenty-four hours of the arrest, her legal team publicly denouncing his actions to save her own name.

Garrett stood before the federal judge three weeks later, his custom-tailored suit replaced by a bright orange institutional jumpsuit, his handsome features hollowed out by fear.

"The defendant’s actions constitute a monstrous campaign of domestic exploitation and financial fraud," the judge declared, her voice booming through the courtroom.

"You left a sick human being on the shoulder of a highway to secure an inheritance, and you used her name to build a monument to your own vanity."

"This court sentences you to twenty-five years in a federal maximum-security facility without the possibility of early parole."

Eleanor sat in the front row of the benches, her white power suit sharp, her posture perfectly still as the marshals guided the prisoner toward the cells.

Garrett turned his head one final time, a desperate, silent plea for forgiveness forming on his lips, but the heavy iron door slammed shut before he could speak.

The man who had believed he could control the narrative of life and death had finally been introduced to a ledger that could never be forged.
