Chapter 4 - THE EVICTION ORDER

The early morning sun of Savannah did nothing to warm the cold, clinical reality that was unfolding inside our living room.

At exactly 7:30 AM, the synchronized crunch of gravel outside signaled the arrival of the local sheriff’s department.

Two uniformed deputies walked up the front steps, their polished boots clicking sharply against the wooden porch boards.

Wyatt backed away toward the stairs, his eyes darting frantically toward his car keys sitting on the kitchen island.

“You called the cops on your own son?” he screamed, his voice cracking into a high-pitched register of pure betrayal.

“You're going to ruin my life over a domestic dispute? Nobody will ever respect this family again if this gets out to the neighbors!”

“Your actions ruined your place in this family a long time ago, Wyatt,” I said, handing the deputies the certified emergency protective order Harrison had finalized before sunrise.

The senior deputy, an older man with a stern, unyielding expression, reviewed the paperwork before looking directly at Wyatt.

“Mr. Wyatt Mercer, you are officially being served with an immediate emergency eviction and an absolute stay-away injunction. You have ten minutes to gather your personal clothing and your immediate identification. Any attempt to touch or threaten the occupant of this property will result in an immediate felony arrest.”

Wyatt looked at his father, hoping to find a single shred of the old leniency, a hidden pocket of parental guilt he could manipulate.

But Harrison stood beside me like a wall of solid stone, his arms crossed over his chest, his expression entirely empty of forgiveness.

“You’re dead to me,” Wyatt hissed, his fingers shaking violently as he snatched his leather jacket from the coat rack.

“Both of you. When I leave this house, I’m never coming back. Don’t call me when you’re old and lonely in this silent mansion.”

“The mansion won't be silent, Wyatt,” I said, watching him throw his clothes into a duffel bag under the watchful eyes of the law enforcement officers.

“It will finally be safe.”
