Chapter 4 - THE IRON AUDIT

The early morning sun of Saturday did nothing to warm the frosted glass windows of the Vale Holding Group's central office.
By 8:00 AM, the federal task force had secured the physical server rooms, systematically downloading every encrypted email and offshore invoice.
I sat in my chambers at the United States Court, my black judicial robes draped over my shoulders, my eyes scanning the certified forensic audit.
"They have been routing smuggled materials through the local port under the guise of medical supply distribution," my clerk, Michael, explained.
"Adrian was using his father’s old municipal bonds to shield the shipping registries from customs inspection."
"And he used Lena's forged signature on the customs declarations to ensure she would carry the legal liability if the containers were ever opened."
"He believed he was playing a high-stakes corporate game with partners who could always cover his debts," I stated, my pen moving with absolute precision.
"But he never realized that every single contract he signed was being routed through my federal grand jury investigation."
The telephone on my desk rang, the secure line displaying the identity of Captain Robert Ross of the Westbridge Precinct.
"Judge Hart," Ross said, his voice trembling so violently I could hear the rattling of his desk organizer.
"I... I received a notification that my personal banking records have been subpoenaed by the federal treasury."
"There has been a massive misunderstanding regarding the dispute at the Vale estate last night."
"The misunderstanding was your belief that your badge could protect a domestic predator, Captain Ross," I replied.
"And by turning off your body cameras when my daughter fled that house, you officially became an unindicted co-conspirator."
May you like
"The federal marshals are entering your lobby in exactly thirty seconds."
"I suggest you have your shield on the table."
