Chapter 2

The corporate structure of Morales Logistics began to fracture within exactly twenty-four hours of the clinical discovery.
Diego sat at his mahogany desk in the downtown Austin terminal, his hands shaking as he reviewed the new court papers.
"The twin profile changes everything, Diego," Paola hissed from the side couch, her pink lipstick looking pale and smudged.
"If those children are biologically yours, the primary inheritance shield in your grandmother's trust fund automatically deactivates."
"They can't be mine," Diego growled, throwing his leather portfolio against the glass partition. "The surgeon confirmed it."
"The surgeon didn't confirm anything, Diego," I said, stepping into the corporate office suite with my attorney.
Marcus Bell, my family’s senior compliance counsel, walked right behind me, sliding a gold-embossed ledger onto the table.
I wore a structured trench coat, my posture tall, my mind entirely focused on the data logs Marcus had extracted.
"Your procedure wasn't failed, Diego," Marcus announced, his voice dropping like an absolute hammer onto the room.
"The medical clinic files we subpoenaed at dawn show you never actually attended the secondary testing appointment."
"You used a forged compliance receipt to convince Laura you were sterile while you routed funds to Paola's accounts."
The grand projection monitors on the wall lit up instantly, displaying forty pages of unredacted transaction records.
It wasn't a record of simple family maintenance or standard medical insurance payouts.
