Chapter 3 - THE FORENSIC DECIMATION

The transition from a quiet, compliant bride to the sovereign chairman of a multi-billion-dollar maritime logistics fund was absolute.

Daniel pulled his device from his jacket, his thumb frantically swiping across the dark glass as his face turned an instant, pasty shade of wet ash.

"What did you do?" he whispered, his teeth grinding together so hard that the muscles along his jawline twitched violently beneath his pale skin.

"My corporate credit cards... the main operating accounts for Cole Hospitality... they are all showing an emergency federal asset freeze."

"The system terminal says our commercial licenses have been suspended pending a criminal forensic audit for identity theft and wire fraud."

"Your corporate licenses were issued under a fraudulent line of credit that used my father's estate as unauthorized collateral, Daniel," I explained calmly.

I reached down, my fingers picking up my wedding ring from the wet marble surface, my eyes locked on the tiny, engraved initials inside the band.

"For eighteen months, you used your position as procurement vice president to forge my digital signature on thirty-two separate vendor contracts."

"You siphoned four million dollars from our employee retirement pension fund to clear your father's defaulted real estate debts in Panama."

"You thought because I kept my head down, because I chose to work from my apartment instead of a high-rise office, I was blind to the numbers."

"But I wasn't hiding from your family, Daniel."

"I was simply giving you enough rope to tie your own hands."

Vanessa stepped away from the marble island, her designer slippers slipping slightly on the spilled coffee as her face contorted into a monstrous mask of pure terror.

"Mom, do something!" she shrieked, turning her head toward Margaret, who was now standing up from the table with her hands shaking uncontrollably.

"She’s trying to steal our company! She’s trying to ruin everything we built for the winter season!"

"You didn't build anything, Vanessa," I said, looking her directly in her wide, panicked eyes with a freezing, absolute authority.

"Your luxury cars, your designer dresses, and the very champagne your family toasted me with two nights ago were paid for with my family's stolen legacy."

"And as of nine o'clock this morning, the lease on this entire lakeside estate has been legally terminated by the primary owner."

"The primary owner being Vale Meridian Holdings."
