Part 2: The Infrastructure Audit

The morning after our wedding night did not bring the peaceful quiet Eleanor deserved.

By 7:00 a.m., the main conference room of CrossEdge Technologies was fully active with four senior forensic accountants.

I sat in my chair at the head of the table, tracking the digital ledger of Whitman Fine Logistics.

"Nathaniel," Naomi Pierce, my chief corporate counsel, said as she pushed a thick white folder across the glass.

"Your new father-in-law, Harold, didn't just hide his operational debts from the board."

"He used our primary distribution licenses to secure a secondary loan from Harlan Development," she explained.

Grant Harlan.

The predator whose name had made my wife weep into her pillow hours ago wasn't just a shadow from her past.

He was a current financial executioner trying to strangulate the northern logistics routes I needed for my medical distribution system.

"Grant filed an emergency regulatory injunction with the city council at midnight," Naomi warned, her face unusually tense.

"He's claiming that Eleanor’s marriage to you is a fraudulent asset transfer designed to evade his family's corporate liens."

I looked out the high windows at the grey morning mist rolling over the Hudson River.

Grant believed that because I sat in a wheelchair, my movements would be too slow to counter a swift legal ambush.

He believed he could use his family's political influence to freeze my company's assets and drag Eleanor back into his territory.

"He's running a standard corporate intimidation play, Naomi," I said, my voice dropping into a flat, icy whisper.

"But he forgot that I built my software network by tracking predators exactly like him."

"Activate the compliance intercept," I ordered.
