By Thursday afternoon, the digital ledgers for Collins International Consulting had expanded to fill three secondary servers in the tech corridor.
I sat at the mahogany conference table, my eyes tracking the scrolling columns of logistics data from our new maritime clients.
The revenue stream was up eighteen percent.
The shipping contracts with the European cargo syndicates were fully finalized.
"We have an unlisted inquiry from a legal firm in Savannah, Amanda," Evelyn said, stepping into the boardroom with a printed ledger sheet.
"They represent the secondary creditors for Rachel’s old real estate agency."
"They are claiming that Todd’s signature on the 2024 loan note included a joint liability clause that connects back to your grandfather's original foundation."
I didn't lift my face from my tablet.
"The joint liability clause was invalidated in 2015, Evelyn," I said, my voice flat.
"When my grandfather filed the primary restriction order against my father’s brokerage name."
"Todd’s lawyers used an outdated template from the old family archive to draft that note."
"They thought the bank would be too lazy to check the historical registry dates."
"Should we issue a formal denial?" Evelyn asked.
"No," I said, a cold smile touching my lips.
"We issue an immediate demand for a forensic audit of the Savannah firm’s clearing accounts."
"If they want to touch my grandfather's foundation, let them open their own vaults for inspection first."
Marcus stepped into the room from the private elevator foyer, his tactical jacket zipped to his chin, his earpiece glowing green.
"The corporate detail has just completed the sweep of the lower terminal, Madam Chairwoman," he reported.
"But we have a vehicle breach alert at the main gate."
"A rental sedan registered to a motel in North Charleston just bypassed the automated security fence."
"Rachel," I said, closing my laptop with a sharp click.
