Part 2: The Paper Trail

The rhythmic click of the handcuffs sealing around Damon’s wrists was the loud, definitive end to his pristine reputation. The two officers moved with practiced, clinical efficiency, pushing his arms behind his back despite his frantic, stammering protests.

"Richard, look at me! This is insane!" Damon shouted, his voice cracking as he looked over his shoulder at my father, his polished facade completely fracturing. "Marin is manipulating the files! I was trying to protect your legacy! She's frozen the offshore capital!"

Richard didn't look up. He remained buried in his hands, his shoulders hunched under his tailored coat, a broken patriarch who had allowed a corporate parasite to violate his own daughter's sanctuary.

"Get him out of my sight," Richard whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of raw grief and sudden, profound fury.

"Officers, wait," Celeste panicked, her manicured hands clutching the fabric of her pink pleated dress as she tried to back away from the desk. "I had nothing to do with the corporate filings! I was simply trying to keep the peace. Marin, tell them! I brought you the flowers!"

"You brought the flowers because they match the ones at the law firm where you and Damon filed the fraudulent power-of-attorney documents last Tuesday," I said, turning my wheelchair toward the desk. I tapped the laptop trackpad, flashing the digital signature trail across the high-resolution screen. "The IP address used to access my mother's closed trust account originates from your private laptop inside the Greenwich estate, Celeste."

Celeste choked on her breath, her eyes locking onto the screen. Every line of data exposed a systematic timeline of digital forgery, identity theft, and financial fraud that she and Damon had been executing while I was confined to high-risk bedrest.

"The manila envelope on that table contains the certified logs from the NewYork-Presbyterian server," I continued, looking at the lead officer. "It includes the digital footprint of Damon tracking my surgical schedule this morning. He used my credentials to approve a 2.4-million-dollar wire transfer to an unverified offshore account in the Cayman Islands while I was under anesthesia."

The second officer stepped forward, pulling a secondary set of restraints from his belt. "Celeste Vance, you are under investigation for grand larceny, corporate conspiracy, and identity fraud. Stand up and put your hands behind your back."

"No! Richard, do something!" Celeste shrieked as the officer secured her wrists, her elegant society image completely dissolving into a frantic, chaotic mess as they dragged her out of the recovery room.

The heavy door slid shut, leaving the room profoundly quiet, save for the soft, steady breathing of my daughter.

Richard slowly lowered his hands from his face. His eyes were red, the lines of aging suddenly looking deep and permanent under the harsh hospital lights. He looked at the white orchids on the table, then at me, his lip quivering.

"Marin..." he spoke, his voice completely hollow. "I... I didn't know. I swear to you, I believed him."

"You believed him because it was easier than looking at what your family had become after Mom died," I said coldly, my fingers gently stroking the soft pink beanie on my daughter's head. "You wanted a partner to run the firm, and you let a wolf into the house because he wore a nice suit."
