Plot twist
Part 1: The Cold Homecoming / Chapter 3 / 3

Part 3: The Hostile Reallocation

I stood up slowly, the military training locking my posture into an iron clad wall between my father and the hospital bed. I didn't reach for the folder. Instead, I opened my phone, projecting a live digital stream directly onto the clinical monitoring screen above Valeria’s bassinet.

"You should have checked the registration tokens on the Blackthorne holding registry before you used your executive power of attorney, Dad," I said, a serene, bone-chilling smile touching my lips. "You thought because I was a government-paid sergeant trapped on the other side of the world, I was just a little soldier playing with numbers. You forgot who designed the security architecture for the firm's main data servers three years ago."

The monitor flashed, replacing the medical telemetry with a live, real-time audit log of the Salazar family trust.

  • The Fraudulent Trajectory: The five-million-dollar drain hadn't been sent to a competitor. The tracking telemetry logs showed the funds had been routed through a series of dummy corporations directly into a private offshore casino account registered under Rogelio’s personal tax ID in the Cayman Islands.

  • The Structural Liquidation: The house in Lomas de Angelópolis wasn't ancestral property; it was a corporate asset leased through the logistics firm. And as of 0800 hours this morning, my military legal team had successfully executed an immediate asset preservation mandate under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.

Rogelio's tired, elegant smile completely evaporated from his face, his jaw going slack as he watched the corporate equity lines drop to zero in a synchronized, automatic margin call. "This is a bluff. You can't freeze the commercial credit lines without a board majority."

"I have the board majority, Rogelio," I delivered the final verdict, pulling a certified, notarized military investigation report from the waterproof folder and sliding it flat onto the tray table. "The secondary shares belong to the defense logistics agency that funds my unit's transport network. By attempting to manipulate my personal accounts and endangering my immediate family while I was on active deployment, you didn't just violate a marriage contract—you committed federal wire fraud against a military officer during a state of active deployment."

The two security guards in the hallway stepped aside as two uniform federal police officers entered the recovery room, their heavy boots clicking sharply against the linoleum floor. They didn't look at me; they walked straight toward my father, a pair of steel handcuffs reflecting the bright fluorescent lights.

"Rogelio Salazar," the lead officer announced, his voice ringing with absolute legal authority. "You are under arrest for corporate grand larceny, financial coercion, and conspiracy to commit domestic endangerment."

My mother, Rebeca, appeared in the doorway, her faux-fur coat looking completely ridiculous in the sterile hospital corridor as she watched her husband’s hands being secured behind his back. The high-society illusion she loved to show off during social gatherings was completely dismantled.

"Mateo, please!" she wailed, her aristocratic voice cracking into a desperate, panicked plea. "Think of the family name! The neighbors... the whole board will be talking!"

"Let them talk, Mom," I said, turning my back on them as the officers guided my father down the hallway in silence.

I walked back to the bedside, sitting down to wrap my arms around Valeria and our stable, breathing daughter. The old locks on the mansion were already being replaced by my own security detail, the fraudulent evidence had been cleanly purged, and the assets were finally secured. The storm had passed, the ledger was perfectly balanced, and my family was finally safe, protected, and home.
