Part 1: The Departure and The First Drop

## Part 1: The Slap and The Silver Cane
The room became very quiet.
Sienna stepped backward, clutching her throat as if she were the victim.
Her fake tears were perfect.
"Parker, she's going to hurt me," she whispered, her voice trembling beautifully.
Parker’s grip on my arm tightened.
"Lily, apologize to her," he said.
His voice was a flat line.
I looked at him.
My husband of twelve years.
The man who had promised to protect me.
"She hit me, Parker," I said. "She hit your pregnant wife."
"You provoked her," he replied.
He didn't even blink.
"You've been tracking her. You've been making her life a living hell."
I looked at the security camera in the corner.
It was recording everything.
Every word.
Every lie.
Every bruise forming on my wrist.
Suddenly, the heavy wooden door of the ER room didn't just open.
It shattered against the wall.
The sound was like a gunshot in the sterile room.
Two men in tailored black suits stepped in first.
They didn't look at Parker.
They didn't look at Sienna.
They stood on either side of the entrance, their hands crossed in front of them.
Then came the sound of a cane.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
A heavy silver-headed cane striking the white linoleum floor.
The room grew so cold I could see my own breath.
Henry Caldwell walked in.
My father.
He was seventy years old, but he stood like a mountain.
His hair was pure white, his suit custom-made in London, and his eyes were two chips of grey ice.
He didn't look at the doctors who were suddenly crowding the hallway behind him.
He didn't look at the hospital administrator who was sweating through his shirt.
He looked only at me.

Then his eyes dropped to Parker’s hand, which was still wrapped around my upper arm.
The silence that followed was heavy.
It was the kind of silence that happens before a building collapses.
"Parker," my father said.
His voice wasn't loud.
It was a soft, dangerous rumble.
"If you do not remove your hand from my daughter in the next one second, I will ensure you never use that hand to sign a contract again."
Parker’s face went entirely white.
He let go of me so fast he almost tripped over the trash can.
Sienna’s fake tears froze on her cheeks.
She looked at my father.
Then she looked at the five security guards standing in the hallway.
Then she looked at the Chief of Medicine, who was bowing his head to my father.
"Mr. Caldwell," Parker stammered, his confidence evaporating. "This is a misunderstanding. Lily is... she's hysterical. She's been having a difficult pregnancy."
My father didn't answer him.
He walked over to my bedside.
He placed his large, warm hand on my forehead.
"Are you alright, Lily-bird?" he asked.
"The baby moved, Dad," I whispered. "Just once."
He nodded slowly.
"Then she is a Caldwell," he said. "She is strong."
He turned around to face Parker and Sienna.
The warmth left his face instantly.
"Edward," my father called out to the hallway.
The hospital administrator stepped forward, trembling. "Yes, Mr. Caldwell?"
"Who allowed these two into my daughter’s private wing?"
"They... they said they were family, sir. Mr. Whitmore is her husband—"
"He was her husband," my father corrected.
He pointed his silver cane at Sienna.
"Who is she?"
Sienna tried to puff out her chest. She adjusted her diamond necklace.
"I'm Sienna Vale," she said, trying to sound important. "I'm the head consultant for Whitmore Tech. Parker and I—"
"Edward," my father interrupted, not even looking at her. "Fire her."
Sienna blinked. "What? You can't fire me. I don't work for you."
My father finally smiled.
It was a terrible smile.
"Your agency’s biggest client is the Caldwell Hospital Network," he said softly. "As of thirty seconds ago, that contract is dead. Your agency will go bankrupt by Friday. You are done in this city."
Sienna’s breath caught in her throat.
Parker stepped in front of her. "Henry, please. This is business. You can't destroy a company over a personal matter."
My father walked closer to Parker.
He stopped just three inches away.
He was a head taller than my husband.
"You took my daughter’s money to build your company," my father whispered.
"You used her inheritance to buy your stock."
"And then you brought your whore into my hospital to assault my pregnant child."
The entire hallway of doctors and nurses went completely silent. No one dared to breathe.
"I didn't just build this hospital, Parker," my father said, his voice echoing in the corridor. "I own the land your house sits on. I own the bank that holds your company's debt."
He leaned in closer.
"By tomorrow morning, I am going to strip you of everything you own."
Parker tried to speak, but no sound came out.
"But before that," my father said, turning his head slightly toward the security guards. "There is the matter of the assault."
He looked at the security camera.
"Lily, did she strike you?"
"Yes," I said. "She slapped me. And she squeezed my wrist."
My father nodded once.
"Arrest her," he said to the guards.
Sienna screamed as two large men grabbed her arms. "Parker! Do something! Parker!"
But Parker didn't move. He was staring at my father like he was looking at his executioner.
As they dragged Sienna out, she screamed one last thing.
A phrase that turned the entire room upside down.
"You think you've won, Lily?" she shrieked, her voice echoing down the hall. "Ask your husband about the Swiss account! Ask him what happened to the five million dollars your mother left you!"
The door slammed shut.
The room went completely still again.
I looked at Parker.
His eyes were wide with a new, deep horror.
May you like
He wasn't looking at my father anymore.
He was looking at me, and for the first time, he looked terrified of what I might say.
