Part 2: The Sovereign Trust

The grand estate hall fell into a suffocating, absolute silence. The murmurs of the black-tie guests died instantly as my attorney, Eleanor Vance, stepped forward from the back of the room. She wasn't carrying standard probate paperwork. She carried a locked leather portfolio stamped with the official seal of the Georgia State Superior Court.
Brooke’s hand slowly slid off the top of the framed portrait, her chest rising and falling in shallow, panicked breaths. "What is the meaning of this? This is a private family reading. Eleanor, turn that recording off!"
"The recording was legally captured on a security perimeter line registered to the Whitaker Estate, Brooke," Eleanor said, her voice echoing off the high ceilings with a calm, clinical authority. "And under the strict behavior guidelines written into Robert Whitaker’s final amendment, any verbal or physical intimidation directed toward his primary heir instantly triggers a mandatory liquidation clause."
Mason slowly lifted his face from his hands, his eyes bloodshot and rimmed with a deep, pathetic regret. He looked at his sister-in-law, then at Tyler, my younger brother, who was sitting in the front row covering his mouth in frozen astonishment.
"Tyler," Mason croaked, his voice cracking. "What did you do? You told us the old man was senile during his final months. You said the assets were safe."
"Tyler only saw what my father wanted him to see," I said, stepping forward from the shadows of the white pillars. I held the small, damp envelope tightly against my chest. "My father knew about your secret meetings with Mason, Tyler. He knew you were feeding Brooke information about his medical charts, hoping to declare him mentally unfit so you could force a corporate takeover of the Savannah timberlands."
Tyler stood up, his face turning an instant, translucent shade of gray. "Hannah, that’s a lie! I was taking care of him!"
"You were auditing his bank accounts," Eleanor countered, popping the brass latches on her leather portfolio. She pulled out a stack of certified forensic financial logs and spread them across the table under the chandelier light. "For the past ninety days, Tyler Whitaker and Mason Cross have been operating an unauthorized shell company registered in Delaware, systematically transferring automated dividends from the Whitaker Foundation into a private offshore repository."

Brooke stepped back, her expensive heels clicking sharply against the polished wood floor. She reached for her designer purse, her arrogant composure completely dissolving into a frantic, sweating panic. "Mason signed those transfers! He was a legal partner in the firm for fifteen years!"
"He was a partner until he violated his marriage covenant with Hannah," Eleanor clarified, sliding a secondary document toward the board members in the audience. "Robert Whitaker didn't forgive you, Mason. He didn't play golf with you every Sunday because he liked your company. He did it to keep his enemies close enough to monitor their digital keystrokes. This is a certified federal embezzlement indictment. And your names are both at the top of the file."
