Part 1: The Genetic Heist / Chapter 2 / 3

Part 2: The Billionaire's Shield

The sheer, suffocating arrogance of Julian’s voice echoed off the sterile tile walls of the delivery room.

He walked toward the foot of my hospital bed with the casual, relaxed posture of a man arriving to collect a package.

Eleanor Vance, my former mother-in-law, stepped into the room right behind him, wearing a designer trench coat and a smug, victorious sneer.

“It’s time to stop this pathetic little charade, Vivian,” Eleanor announced, wrinkling her nose at my exhausted, sweat-dampened appearance.

Julian snapped his fingers, and one of his private security guards stepped forward, holding out the thick stack of legal documents.

“This is an emergency ex parte custody order, signed by Judge Harrison less than an hour ago,” Julian stated, his tone dripping with fake, manufactured sympathy.

He looked at Dr. Sterling, offering the older man a practiced, manipulative smile.

“My ex-wife has been suffering from severe, documented prenatal psychosis, and she is a physical danger to herself and the child.”

I gripped the bedsheets so tightly my knuckles ached, my entire body vibrating with a furious, maternal rage.

“You are a liar, Julian,” I spat, my voice hoarse but echoing with absolute, undeniable defiance.

Julian chuckled softly, adjusting his expensive silk tie as if my anger was nothing more than a mild amusement.

“The court-appointed psychiatrist who reviewed your files strongly disagrees, Vivian,” Julian countered smoothly.

He took a step toward Dr. Sterling, holding his hands out to take the swaddled baby.

“Now, please hand over my son, Doctor, before I am forced to have the hospital administration remove you from the premises.”

Dr. Richard Sterling did not move a single muscle.

The billionaire physician stood perfectly still, clutching my newborn son to his chest like a fiercely protective shield.

The tears of grief that had filled Dr. Sterling's eyes only moments ago were now completely gone, replaced by a cold, lethal, and terrifying fury.

“You claim this child is your biological son, Mr. Vance?” Dr. Sterling asked, his voice dangerously low and smooth.

“Of course he is,” Julian replied, his confident smile faltering for just a fraction of a second. “I have the IVF clinic records to prove it.”

Dr. Sterling let out a dark, humorless laugh that sent a shiver down my spine.

“That is fascinating,” Dr. Sterling whispered, his sharp blue eyes locking onto Julian’s pale face.

“Because I personally own the private fertility clinic you used, Mr. Vance.”

Julian’s arrogant posture suddenly vanished, his shoulders stiffening as a flicker of genuine panic crossed his features.

“And I also know that you secretly paid the clinic’s former director two million dollars to illegally acquire the frozen genetic material of my deceased son, Marcus Sterling.”

Eleanor gasped loudly, her designer handbag slipping from her grasp and hitting the hospital floor with a heavy thud.

“You’re insane!” Julian shouted, his voice cracking as he pointed a trembling finger at the doctor. “I am the father! The paperwork says I am the father!”

I slowly pushed myself up against the hospital pillows, ignoring the agonizing pain radiating through my core.

“The paperwork also says you embezzled fourteen million dollars from your clients' pension funds, Julian,” I said clearly.

Julian whipped his head toward me, his eyes wide with absolute, unadulterated horror.

“What did you just say?” he choked out, the color draining from his face until he looked like a corpse.

I reached under my hospital mattress, pulling out the secure, encrypted flash drive I had hidden there the moment I was admitted to triage.

“I was an auditor for the federal oversight committee before I married you,” I reminded him, enjoying the sheer, devastating terror blooming in his eyes.

“Did you really think changing the passwords on our joint accounts would stop me from accessing your offshore shell companies?”

I tossed the flash drive onto the rolling medical tray beside my bed, the small piece of plastic landing with a heavy, metallic click.

“That drive contains every wire transfer, every forged clinic signature, and the blackmail emails you sent to the psychiatrist to fake my medical evaluation.”

Eleanor scrambled forward, desperately reaching for the flash drive, but Dr. Sterling stepped smoothly in her path.

“Do not touch her property, Mrs. Vance,” the billionaire warned, his voice carrying the immense, crushing weight of his power.

Julian backed away toward the door, his chest heaving as his perfectly orchestrated life began to collapse into ashes.

“This is inadmissible!” Julian screamed, looking frantically at his two bewildered security guards. “Grab the baby! Take the baby right now!”

The two massive guards took a hesitant step forward, intimidated by Julian’s frantic shouting.

Before they could even raise their hands, the delivery-room door was kicked open with a violent, deafening crash.

Four heavily armed tactical officers from the FBI’s white-collar crime division poured into the small hospital room.

“Julian Vance!” the lead federal agent barked, raising his badge high into the air.

Julian froze in place, his hands instinctively shooting up above his head as the reality of his destruction finally set in.

“You are under arrest for grand larceny, federal wire fraud, and the illegal trafficking of human genetic material,” the agent announced loudly.

Eleanor let out a pathetic, high-pitched wail, collapsing to her knees on the sterile linoleum floor.

“It wasn't me!” Eleanor shrieked, desperately pointing a shaking finger at her own son. “Julian planned the whole thing! I just wanted the Sterling trust fund money!”

I watched with profound, quiet satisfaction as the officers brutally yanked Julian’s arms behind his back and secured the heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.

Julian looked over his shoulder at me, his arrogant, confident smile completely replaced by the pathetic, weeping face of a broken man.

“Vivian, please!” Julian begged, tears streaming down his face as they dragged him toward the hallway. “I’m your husband! Don't let them do this to me!”

I rested my head back against the pillows, feeling a deep, beautiful sense of peace wash over my exhausted soul.

“You divorced me, Julian,” I whispered, sealing his fate forever. “Unfortunate timing.”
