Part 4: Absolute Restitution

By noon, the federal transport vehicles had fully cleared the cul-de-sac, leaving the Revere estate under the quiet, peaceful protection of the court-appointed asset managers. Kyle and Vanessa had been processed into the state correctional facility, their designer wardrobes seized as restitution collateral, and their high-society credit cards permanently canceled.
I stood on the front porch of the grand house, the clean afternoon air brushing against the manicured hedges. My mother sat in a plush armchair in the living room, wrapped in a thick wool blanket, sipping tea while Claire gently organized her restored medical documents on the side table.
"The title is fully restored in your mother's name, Daniel," Marcus announced, closing his legal briefcase with a definitive, ringing click. "The title company has issued a total liability waiver, and the fraudulent corporate entity K&V Global has been legally dissolved by the state compliance board."
"Thank you, Marcus," I said, looking through the glass doors at my family, who were finally safe inside the monument built by my mother's hard work.
Claire walked out onto the porch, a soft, beautiful smile finally breaking across her face as she wrapped her arms around my waist, leaning her head against my shoulder. "She's sleeping in her own bed tonight, Daniel. The doctors say her vitals are completely stable now that the stress is gone."
"She's never going to sleep on newspapers again, Claire," I whispered, kissing the top of her head as I looked out at the quiet, secure neighborhood.
The manipulation, the fake updates, the ignored phone calls, and the arrogant laughter of my brother and his wife were gone forever, replaced by the clean, quiet finality of the law.
