Part 2: The Sunrise Audit

The elevator chimed, opening into the cavernous marble lobby of the hotel. The grand chandeliers cast long shadows across the polished floor, reflecting the early morning dawn creeping through the glass facade. My father was waiting by the columns, his face a roadmap of intense worry. He had seen me leave the reception early, and he knew the ruthless corporate sharks Adrian ran with.

"Evelyn," he said, rushing forward and grabbing my shoulders. "What happened? You look like you’ve just come from a boardroom battle, not a wedding reception."

"I have the phone, Dad," I said, my voice eerily calm as I handed him Adrian’s secondary device. "Call Miriam Shaw. Tell her our corporate intelligence team has exactly three hours to extract the deleted WhatsApp logs and cross-reference the routing numbers from the Santillán accounts."

My father didn't ask questions. He recognized the tone in my voice—it was the exact same tone I used when I dismantled hostile takeovers before breakfast. He immediately picked up his phone, barking orders to our legal team and the executive board of directors.

By 5:00 AM, I was sitting in the corner office of my father’s investment firm, my white wedding gown draped over the leather chair like armor. Miriam Shaw, our lead private investigator, threw a thick manila folder onto the desk, its contents stamped with the official red seal of the state prosecutor’s financial crimes unit.

"Adrian thought he was using your family to save his corporate logistics firm from bankruptcy," Miriam said, her eyes dark with a fierce, protective satisfaction. "But he forgot to check his own house. The suspicious offshore wire transfers we’ve been tracking for six weeks didn't stop at Vanessa's personal accounts. They were immediately rerouted into a private trust fund registered under a different name."

"Whose name?" I asked, leaning forward, my fingers tapping rhythmically against the mahogany desk.

Miriam slid a certified birth certificate amendment and a series of covert photographs across the table. My eyes locked onto the image of Vanessa Cole sitting in a dimly lit restaurant, her hand resting on the table. Wrapped tightly around her wrist was a heavy, gold signet ring featuring the family crest of the Vance family.

It wasn't Adrian’s ring. It belonged to his younger brother, Julian.

"The child Vanessa is carrying isn't Adrian’s," Miriam revealed, a cold smile touching her lips. "She's been involved with Julian for over a year. They used Adrian’s desperation to siphon off three million dollars from the merger's preliminary escrow account, planning to flee to Europe the moment the paperwork cleared on Monday. Adrian isn't the mastermind, Evelyn. He's the patsy."

I stared at the photographs, a slow, triumphant smile spreading across my face. Adrian had spent months treating me like a stepping stone into high society, completely blind to the fact that his own mistress and his own brother were using him as a financial shield.

"Perfect," I whispered, organizing the files back into my bridal bouquet. "The execution is scheduled for eight o’clock."
