Part 3: The Liquidation of the Mitchell Trust

By Monday morning, the corporate headquarters of Mitchell Financial Group downtown was completely surrounded by compliance vehicles.

The story of the prominent Austin family who systematically poisoned their own daughter-in-law had already broken across the national news grids.

I sat in the main executive boardroom, wearing a sharp tailored navy suit, flanked by my trust attorneys and the federal district prosecutor.

Daniel, my primary asset manager, pushed a certified ledger across the obsidian table toward Mark and his defense counsel.

"The emergency marital asset freeze has been fully processed by the state court, Mr. Mitchell," Daniel announced with ice-cold precision.

"Because the capital funding for your suburban home and your corporate holdings originated entirely from the Hayes family trust, your access has been permanently revoked."

"Lauren... please," Mark whispered, his eyes bloodshot, his tailored shirt wrinkled as he looked at me across the mahogany width.

"It was my mother's idea. She was obsessed with the estate expansion. I was just trapped under her influence. Don't do this to me."

"You weren't trapped when you were unbuttoning your shirt in my bed, Mark," I replied, my voice flat, deadpan, and entirely devoid of emotion.

"You weren't panicked about the future when you told your nineteen-year-old girlfriend that your mother was taking care of the 'baby problem.'"

Evelyn sat beside him, her hands cuffed to her leather chair, her high-society legacy turning to absolute ash in front of her corporate peers.

"The grand jury has returned indictments for attempted capital murder, structured financial fraud, and conspiracy to commit murder," the prosecutor added.

The defense attorney quietly closed his briefcase, refusing to look at his clients as he stood up and walked toward the exit.
