Margaret Reed’s estate stood on a hill above the first Reedstone Children’s Hospital.
The property had been built before the hospital network existed.
Red brick.
White columns.
Tall windows facing gardens arranged with mathematical precision.
The family called the main room the Legacy Library.
Theodore Reed signed the original hospital charter there.
Every descendant was photographed beneath his portrait.
Every inheritance transfer occurred at the same oak table.
Margaret wanted Emma and Chloe inside that room because the trust used the estate’s biometric system to verify bloodline claims.
Three descendants would unlock fifty-six percent of Reedstone voting authority.
Chloe.
Emma.
And a third child nobody had yet identified.
The trust records referenced Descendant C without a name.
Margaret needed the children present to determine which branches remained alive.
Hannah agreed to enter the estate only after Agent Keene presented a complete operation.
Emma would not be used as bait physically.
A medical-grade biometric replica created from existing hospital samples would simulate her presence inside the trust system.
The carrier Hannah brought would appear to contain a sleeping baby.
In reality, Emma remained inside a protected St. Catherine’s wing with Miriam, Dr. Monroe, and independent federal security.
Hannah hated leaving her.
She also understood that Chloe and Amelia remained in danger.
Lucas asked whether Hannah wanted him inside.
“Yes,” she said. “But you follow the police plan. You do not negotiate for me.”
“I understand.”
“No promises to Margaret.”
“I understand.”
“No calling Emma your daughter in order to influence the trust.”
His face tightened.
