Chapter 8 - THE NEW DAWN

A year later.
The morning sun filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Interlomas mansion, casting warm, golden light across the marble floors. I walked into the kitchen, barefoot, holding a mug of dark roast coffee. The house was quiet, but it wasn't the heavy, oppressive silence of loneliness. It was the peaceful, breathing silence of a home that truly belonged to me.
I walked out onto the terrace. The swimming pool was still perfectly clean, reflecting the endless blue sky. I sat on the lounge chair and opened my laptop. I wasn't checking bank statements for stolen money anymore. I was reviewing business plans. A few months ago, I had started a new venture—a boutique incubator for female-led tech startups. I was using my capital and my experience to ensure other women never had to rely on a man to validate their success.
Bryce was currently serving a four-year sentence in a minimum-security federal facility. Samantha was renting a tiny apartment in a bad part of town, and his parents had moved into an assisted living facility, entirely cut off from the luxury they had briefly stolen. I rarely thought about them. They were ghosts of a past life, footnotes in a story that I was now writing on my own terms.
A car pulled up the driveway, and this time, the heavy iron gates opened smoothly, welcoming the visitor. It was Elias, dropping by for our weekly brunch and strategy session for the new business. We had become close friends over the past year, bonded in the fires of litigation.
He walked up the steps, holding a box of fresh pastries from my favorite bakery in the city.
"Good morning, billionaire," Elias smiled, setting the box down on the patio table. "Beautiful day for building an empire."

"It really is," I smiled back, looking out over the hills.
I had survived the betrayal. I had survived the theft. But more importantly, I had survived the attempt to make me small. The house was mine. The money was mine. But the most valuable thing I had won back was myself. And as I took a bite of a warm croissant and looked at the blueprint of my future, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I had finally, truly, found the house of my dreams.
