"The private clinic database we subpoenaed at midnight shows your child was never registered as deceased."

William took a sharp step backward, his face turning an ugly shade of ash as the data bars populated.
"That's impossible," he muttered, his phone flashing with twenty-four red alerts from his firm's legal team.
"My mother handled the entire adoption registry through a licensed international legacy network last winter."
