The transition from a quiet widow to a cold, calculated forensic adversary took less than five minutes.

I didn't yell at Garrett, and I didn't let Vivian’s expensive lawyers intimidate me into a quick settlement.

I escorted Jenny down the stairs and into my old sedan, driving straight toward the regional compliance center.

By 3:00 a.m., my dining room table was covered with thirty pages of unredacted financial registry forms.

"They thought my handmade dresses meant my mind was simple, Marcus," I said into my secure field phone.

Marcus Reed, my late husband’s business partner, answered on the first ring, his tone sharp and alert.

"The Ross family is trying to execute a master foreclosure on Jenny’s grandfather’s estate lines," he confirmed.

"They have been using a secondary administrative trust to siphon her corporate voting shares for three months."

"They needed her to sign the permanent inheritance waiver before the third-quarter compliance audit," I said flatly.

"That's why they hired an unlicensed private medical examiner to keep her sedated inside that mansion."

I looked down at the documents, my fingers tracing the cloned curves of my daughter's signature keys.

They had treated her body like an obstacle and my quiet manners like a guarantee of total compliance.

"Lock down the western transport permits, Marcus," I ordered, my voice dropping into a dangerous whisper.

"We are going to freeze their commercial capital before the city council opens its morning docket."
