Chapter 6 - THE EVICTION CEREMONY

Daniel let out a sharp, forced laugh that was too loud, too desperate to hide the sudden, primitive panic beginning to rise inside his chest.
"You're losing your mind, Claire," he spat, taking an aggressive step toward me, his gold watch catching the sunlight as he pointed a finger at my face.
"Your signature carries zero legal equity on a property that was purchased through an independent pre-marital trust, Daniel," I replied calmly.
I reached into my bag, pulling out the certified, state-stamped deed transfer document and holding it open in front of his face.
"Every payment, every document, and every single title registry was completed in my name alone before you ever convinced me to silence my business phone."
"You changed the front door code while I was lying in a hospital bed recovering from the birth of our daughter."
"Well, Daniel... I figured out that this house was a liability I no longer wanted to carry."
Vanessa ran up the walkway, her phone dropped to her side, her face completely pale as she looked at the security guards who were already carrying her designer luggage out of the foyer.
"The new owner’s property management team is clearing the house of all personal belongings, Vanessa," I stated, my tone completely flat and empty of any human sympathy.
"This is our home!" Margaret wailed, her hands clenching her expensive handbag as she fell to her knees on the manicured grass.
"No, Margaret," I whispered, looking down at her with dead, unyielding eyes.

"It was never yours."
"And it’s already sold."
