The ninety-six hours of arrogant confidence the Mercer family had displayed dissolved into a pathetic, high-pitched wail of pure terror.
As the security officers closed in on the platform, the heavy metallic click of the steel restraints closing around Daniel’s wrists was absolute.
"You can't do this to me!" Vivian screamed, her body shaking violently as her designer handbag fell into the spilled champagne.
"We are the primary investors of the Vale Meridian Group, and our family name is respected across the entire state!"
"Your family name was permanently scrubbed from the commercial registries at nine o'clock this morning, Vivian," I said, looking down at her.
"The thirty-five million dollars you used to finance this luxury weekend was stolen from my family's private educational trust."
"And your son’s signature on the commercial debt guarantees has just triggered the automatic forfeiture of your entire estate."

The lead treasury marshal stepped forward, presenting the certified, state-stamped asset seizure warrants directly to Daniel's attorney.
"Daniel Mercer, you are officially under arrest for federal bank fraud, identity theft, and criminal grand larceny," the marshal announced.
