Chapter 4 - THE AUDIT OF VENGEANCE

The early morning sun of Monday did nothing to warm the glass windows of the Miller family’s favorite suburban banking branch.

Julian sat across from the senior loan officer, his custom suit looking sharp, his hand clenching a folder of fraudulent financial statements.

Vanessa sat beside him, her fingers tapping impatiently against her designer handbag as she waited for the credit line to clear.

"We need the secondary equity release from the home deed by noon today to finalize our new vehicle leases," Julian explained arrogantly.

"The home deed is no longer valid collateral for your accounts, Mr. Miller," the loan officer stated, his face turning completely pale.

The heavy double doors of the office were pushed open, and I walked through the threshold, my wet clothes replaced by a sharp black suit.

Beside me walked my father's veteran estate attorney, Marcus Vance, his posture rigid and commanding as he carried a steel lockbox.

"Chloe?" Julian gasped, his confidence instantly evaporating into a dry, desperate rattle as he saw the legal seals on the table.

"What is this nonsense? Mother told you to stay away from our property until you could pay the standard security deposit!"

"The property belongs to the Vance Trust, Julian, and I am the sole managing director of that asset," I said clearly.

"And as of nine o'clock this morning, your lease has been permanently revoked for systematic fraud and non-payment."
