Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Siege

The grand executive suite on the ninetieth floor of the DuPont Tower was a monument to old-money power. A massive, polished mahogany table ran the length of the room, surrounded by thirty leather chairs occupied by the city’s most influential board directors, corporate attorneys, and investment bankers.
At the head of the table stood Julian, his face pale and tightly drawn, his expensive suit poorly hiding the frantic, panicked sweat on his forehead. Beside him stood Catherine, her floral-lace brocade suit immaculate, her double-strand pearl necklace catching the light as she tried to maintain her social composure.
Valerie sat in the front row of the visitor gallery, her hands shaking as she clutched her crimson designer bag, her eyes darting nervously toward the double doors.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Catherine announced, her voice carrying the smooth, rehearsed elegance of a woman who believed she was untouchable. "Due to a sudden, highly regrettable psychological episode involving my daughter-in-law, Sophia, we are proposing an immediate, fast-tracked vote to transfer the remaining logistics assets of the Hastings estate to Julian's exclusive control."
"This transition is necessary to protect our market stability during this difficult family period," Julian added, his voice trembling slightly.
"The psychological episode has already passed, Julian," a cold, clear voice cut through the room like a steel blade.
The heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom were violently thrown open, the wood panels splintering as six armed federal marshals stepped inside, their badges gleaming under the bright LED lights.
I walked through the threshold, my head held high, my posture rigid and unbreakable. I was dressed in a sharp, tailored white power suit, the high collar partially concealing the small bandage above my right eye. My face was clean, the raw marks of the chocolate assault fully visible to the thirty directors who had just been asked to vote on my sanity.
Beside me walked Ryan, carrying the titanium secure case containing the original, decrypted federal files.
"Sophia?" Catherine gasped, her face turning an instant, ash-pale gray as she saw the federal escort. "This is a private, executive board meeting! Security, remove this woman from the floor!"
"The security guards don't work for you anymore, Catherine," I said, walking to the foot of the table, my eyes locking onto my husband’s pale, trembling face. "I bought out your family’s primary debt shares at 8:00 this morning. I now hold the majority voting interest in this corporation."
A collective, horrified murmur swept through the room of directors.
"This is a lie!" Julian shrieked, his voice cracking with a desperate, wild panic as he lunged toward me. "You can't just buy out our shares! The merger contract requires my personal—"
"The merger contract is legally void under the federal corporate fraud act, Julian," Ryan announced, opening the secure case and throwing a thick stack of warrants onto the table.
"The Federal Bureau of Investigation has just verified that the DuPont Group used forged signatures and illegal offshore shell companies to siphon ninety million dollars of Hastings family assets."
"And more importantly," Ryan added, pressing a button on his tablet, "we have the physical evidence of the domestic assault that occurred at your family luncheon."
The massive, high-definition screens on the boardroom walls instantly illuminated, displaying the raw, unedited video of Catherine throwing the heavy chocolate pie directly into my face while Julian and Valerie looked on with smug satisfaction.
The directors stared in absolute, paralyzed horror as the video played on a loop, the sounds of my quiet breathing and Catherine's frantic, guilty screams echoing through the silent boardroom.

"Julian DuPont, Catherine DuPont, Valerie Vance," the lead federal marshal announced, stepping forward with three pairs of heavy steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, and first-degree aggravated assault."
The heavy metallic click of the restraints closing around my husband's wrists was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard. The golden prince of the DuPont dynasty was reduced to a pale, shivering felon, his empire of lies permanently dismantled in front of his wealthiest investors.
