Chapter 2 - The Fallout

The arrival of the police turned the driveway of the Kingsley mansion into a scene of chaotic scrutiny.

Neighbors peered over the hedges, and drones hovered in the distance, capturing every moment of the fallout.

Serena didn't go quietly; she shouted accusations at everyone who tried to lead her away, her voice becoming increasingly shrill as the cameras clicked around her.

She tried to play the victim, claiming Evelyn had been harassing her, but the phone in Damian's possession contained the undeniable evidence of her malice.

Damian stood on the front steps, his arms crossed over his chest as the patrol car door slammed shut on Serena.

He wasn't feeling triumph, only a deep, gnawing shame that he had allowed this to happen under his own roof.

Evelyn was now inside, being attended to by the family doctor, but the look in her eyes—the look of a woman who had been systematically broken—haunted him.

"She’s been doing this for months, Damian," the doctor whispered as he stepped out onto the porch.

"She wasn't just 'trimming' hair."

"She’s been psychological warfare personified."

Damian nodded, his jaw tight.

"I know."

"I should have seen it."

He looked back at the house, feeling the weight of the massive structure pressing down on him.

He had built an empire on financial control, but he had lost control of the only world that actually mattered.

The next few hours were a whirlwind of legal maneuvering.

He contacted the lead investigator at the precinct, ensuring that the charges against Serena were pushed to the absolute limit.

Assault, harassment, defamation, and the unauthorized broadcasting of private trauma.

He would make sure that her name was never associated with the Kingsley family again.

As the dusk settled over the estate, he returned to his mother’s room, finding her sitting by the window, staring out at the fountain.

"I’m sorry, Mom," he said, his voice cracking.

"I was so busy managing the accounts, I forgot to manage the family."

Evelyn turned, her eyes still red, but her gaze was steadier than he had seen it in months.

"You weren't the one holding the scissors, Damian," she said, her voice quiet.

"But I was the one who handed her the power to cut."

The realization was a heavy, cold weight in his heart, one he knew he would have to carry for a very long time.
