Chapter 1 - The Code of Silence

The room was silent.
Sterile.
Cold.
The doctor’s words hung in the air.
Call the police.
I looked at Emily.
She was asleep.
Sedated.
Her wrist was bruised.
Deep purple.
A handprint.
My rage was a fire.
A storm.
I was a Colonel.
I fought for my country.
I would fight for my child.
I stepped into the hall.
My phone rang.
Margaret.
The viper.
I answered.
“Colonel?” she asked.
Her voice was sugary.
“How is she?”
“She’s resting,” I said.
My voice was dead.
“And the baby?”
“Safe.”
“Good,” she replied.
“I have things to do.”
“I’ll come by later.”
“No,” I said.
“Stay away.”
“What?”
“Stay away, Margaret.”
I hung up.
I turned to the officer.
“I have evidence.”
“What evidence?”
I opened my bag.
I pulled out a drive.
I had been recording.
For months.
I knew she was a threat.
But I never guessed this.
I never imagined the physical toll.
The officer took the drive.
“We’ll review this.”
I looked back at the door.
Emily was the victim.
I was the protector.
But the real threat?
Daniel.
The husband.
He was coming home.
And he had no idea.
What was waiting.
May you like
The nightmare wasn't over.
It was just starting.
