Plot twist

Chapter 3 - The Confrontation

I stood in the hall.

Hospital lights were blinding.

Daniel walked through.

He looked small.

Defeated.

He saw me.

He stopped.

“Colonel,” he said.

“I can explain.”

I didn't speak.

I didn't move.

I let him talk.

Let him drown.

“It was an accident.”

“She fell.”

“She was exhausted.”

“She was weak.”

I stepped forward.

I looked at him.

Coldly.

“Weak?” I asked.

“She gave life.”

“You gave pain.”

“She was a mother.”

“You were a jailer.”

He backed away.

“That’s not true.”

“Margaret insisted.”

“I didn't want this.”

“You chose this,” I said.

“Every day.”

“Every choice.”

“Every silence.”

I took his collar.

I held him tight.

“She’s my daughter.”

“She’s my world.”

“And you’re nothing.”

The guards arrived.

They pulled me back.

“Sir, stand down.”

I let him go.

I wasn't a soldier.

I was a father.

But the Colonel remained.

I looked at the judge.

He stood in the hall.

“Ready, Colonel?”

“Ready,” I said.

The doors opened wide.

The courtroom awaited.

The trial was set.

The truth was ready.

Daniel looked back.

He saw the fear.

He saw the shame.

He had lost everything.

And he deserved it.

May you like

The fight began.

And I would win.
