Chapter 3 - The Reconstruction

The morning light felt different as it flooded the empty condo, warming the marble floors that were no longer cluttered with the debris of other people’s lives.
I spent the day working from my home office, my career finally getting the focus it deserved without the constant interruptions of Ricardo’s demands.
The news of the scandal at the gala had already spread through my office, but rather than pity, I received respect.
My colleagues, who had seen me work for years, finally understood why I had been so protective of my time and my resources.
I wasn't just an executive; I was a woman who had managed to hold her own against an empire of lies.

I began the process of filing for divorce, the paperwork a testament to the fact that I was ready to close the chapter that had held me back for so long.
My parents visited, their faces filled with relief as they saw the state of the apartment and the clarity with which I was handling the aftermath.
“We told you we bought this place for your protection,” my mother said, holding my hand.
“And we’re so proud that you finally used it.”
“It took me too long,” I admitted.
“But the lesson was worth the price.”
I wasn't looking for a new partner or a new status; I was looking for the freedom to be myself.
The condo was slowly becoming a home, filled with things I liked, colors I had chosen, and a peace that I had never been able to afford when Ricardo’s family was under my roof.
I wasn't just moving on; I was building a future that was fundamentally mine.

Every morning, I woke up with the realization that I didn't have to apologize to anyone for the success I had achieved.
I was Lucia, and I was finally, truly, in charge.
