Chapter 3 - The Forensic Cleansing

The private medical suite at the military base hospital was quiet, warm, and protected by two armed guards at the door.
I sat in the comfortable leather armchair beside the bed, my tactical vest finally removed, replaced by a clean civilian shirt.
Sarah lay asleep beneath the soft wool blankets, a sterile IV line delivering the vital nutrients her starved body had been denied for years.
Beside her, Jamie was curled into a peaceful ball, his small fingers still clutching the massive box of toys I had brought from Riyadh.
The doctors had confirmed that while both of them were suffering from severe malnutrition and chronic dehydration, there was no permanent organ damage.
"They would have kept us in that room until we died, John," Sarah whispered, her eyes slowly opening as she looked at me.
"Your mother told me that if I tried to contact your firm's security desk, she would have her friends in the local police department declare me an unfit mother."
"She said they would take Jamie away from me and place him in a state home where I would never find him."
"No one is ever going to threaten you again, Sarah," I said, my voice cracking as I kissed her forehead.
"The local police captain who helped them alter the records was suspended from duty three hours ago."
"My brother, Ryan, who heads the federal fraud division, has personally taken over the investigation."
As I spoke, the door of the medical suite opened softly, and Ryan stepped inside, carrying a thick black leather folder of financial audits.
"John, we’ve successfully decrypted the offshore accounts Gertrude was using to mask the transfers," Ryan reported, his face grave.
"It wasn't just simple greed; your sister Prudence was laundering money for an illegal real estate development group in Europe."
"They used your security clearances to purchase the land surrounding the Bayside Heights estate, planning to force you into a corporate buyout."
"If you hadn't returned early, they would have finalized the bankruptcy petition against your private firm by next Monday."
"They wanted to destroy the company to clear their own debts," I noted, my eyes narrowing as the final pieces of the conspiracy materialized.
"The high-society party wasn't a charity event; it was a celebration of the contract merger they had forged using my digital signature."
"Exactly," Ryan agreed, handing me the signed seizure warrants from the federal magistrate.
"The grand jury has already returned twenty-four indictments for federal wire fraud, conspiracy to commit manslaughter through deprivation, and treason."
"Gertrude and Prudence are currently being held in separate cells at the federal holding facility downtown, their bail requests permanently denied."
I stood up from the chair, the cold focus of my tactical training returning as I looked at the legal documents.

"We are going back to the mansion tomorrow, Ryan," I said, my voice carrying the absolute finality of a command.
"But we aren't going back to live there. We are going back to execute the final cleansing of my father's land."
