Chapter 2 - The Unraveling

Camila didn’t look back as she walked toward her parents.
She ignored the shocked whispers, the flashing cameras, and the frantic attempts of Julian to get her attention.
Her father stood up, his gray suit looking small, but he stood with a pride that made Camila’s chest ache.
“Let’s go,” she whispered, taking her mother’s hand.
“We don’t belong here.”
As they walked toward the parking lot, the vineyard’s beauty felt like a mask that had finally been ripped away.

Patricia followed them for a few steps, her composure cracking.
“Camila! You’re making a scene!” she yelled.

“I’m just finishing it.”
They reached their car—a modest sedan—and as they drove away, Camila felt the weight of the last three years finally slide off her shoulders.
She wasn't worried about the future, or the money, or the public embarrassment.
She was focused on the warmth of her mother’s hand in hers.
For the first time in years, she felt truly free.
