Chapter 5 - THE DIAGNOSTIC SIEGE

The grand executive boardroom of the development syndicate was a breathtaking monument to corporate arrogance and stolen wealth.
Thirty of the city’s most prominent real estate investors and legal advisors sat in high-backed chairs, preparing to finalize the Hillcrest acquisition.
At the head of the table sat Julian, his custom suit immaculate, his face carrying a smooth, victorious grin as he adjusted his gold watch.
"With the final state conservatorship hearing scheduled for tomorrow morning, we are prepared to guarantee the immediate transfer of the East Los Angeles parcels," Julian announced.
"The original owner has been medically certified as incompetent, allowing our trust to assume full execution authority."
"The only thing you are going to assume tomorrow morning is a federal indictment, Julian," a cold, clear voice cut through the room.
The heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom were violently thrown open, the sound vibrating against the stone walls as I stepped onto the floor.
I wore an elegant, sharp black tailored power suit, my gray hair styled with absolute, professional dignity, my hand holding the silver forensic briefcase.
Behind me walked Arthur and Monica, their faces pale but resolved, followed by six armed federal marshals with their gold badges gleaming.
"Mom?" Julian gasped, the gold fountain pen slipping from his fingers and clattering loudly against the polished wood of the table.
His eyes darted frantically toward the security cameras in the corners of the ceiling, his body instantly stiffening with a primitive panic.
"What... what are you doing here? You are supposed to be at the medical clinic!"
May you like
"The medical clinic has already delivered the clinical diagnostics to the federal prosecutors, Julian," I said, my voice echoing clearly through the silent room.
"And the capsule your partners implanted in my body is now listed as Exhibit A."
