Chapter 6 - The Midnight Raid at Princeton

By late afternoon, the pouring rain had cleared, leaving behind a crisp, biting autumn chill that swept across the gated community.

Three federal transport vans were parked in the driveway of the grand house on Elm Street, their high-intensity searchlights illuminating the pristine white columns.

I stood by the front gates with Hannah and Zoe, watching the moving crews carry out the file cabinets and the encrypted servers from Gavin's private study.

His mother and sister arrived in a local taxi, their elegant coats rumpled as they witnessed the total dismantling of their family’s financial dynasty.

"You did this, Taylor!" Gavin’s sister screamed from the curb, her manicured fingers pointing at my face. "You ruined his career! He was going to take this family to the executive board next year!"

"Your brother ruined this family the moment he decided thirty years of military intelligence was something he could play games with," I said, not moving an inch.

"The house is registered under the corporate entity he used to wash the syndicate funds, which means this property belongs to the federal trust now."

Gavin was guided down the front steps by two marshals, his spotless white shirt now covered in dirt from the search, his eyes entirely hollow as he looked at Zoe.

My granddaughter didn't hide behind her mother this time; she stood tall, her little hand wrapped securely around my finger, her amber eyes steady as she watched the routine finally end.
