Chapter 4 - THE CORPORATE INTERDICTION

The early morning sun of Tuesday did nothing to warm the frosted glass panels of Ross’s regional logistics firm downtown.

Ross sat in his high-backed leather chair, his shirt unbuttoned at the collar, his hands trembling violently as a continuous stream of red security warnings filled his screen.

Gwendolyn stood by the window, her cream-colored sweater looking wrinkled and old, her wine glass replaced by a trembling phone as she refreshed the frozen accounts.

"Ross! The bank just executed a total, non-negotiable quarantine on our corporate investment lines!" she shrieked, her face a pale mask of high-society panic.

"They are saying our collateral is fraudulent because the land deeds belong to a primary government-restricted trust!"

"They are claiming we don't have the authority to process the regional supply contracts today!"

Ross looked up, his bloodshot eyes wide with an aggressive, defensive fury as he watched his primary network connectivity indicators drop to zero percent.

"It’s Corinne," he whispered hoarsely, his hands dropping uselessly onto the desk.

"She didn't just stay in that hotel... she has executed the sovereign clawback clause inside the Department of Defense housing registry."

"She owns the entire infrastructure network we used to secure our commercial loans, Gwendolyn... she has been reading our files for eight months."

Before Gwendolyn could answer, the heavy double doors of the office suite were violently pushed open, and a team of six armed federal marshals stepped onto the floor.

"Ross Hardy, you are officially under arrest for corporate forgery, identity theft, and criminal child endangerment," the lead officer announced.
