Chapter 3 - The Arrogant Takeover Attempt

At 9:00 AM, the grand lobby of the Bennett Grand Hotel on Michigan Avenue was bustling with international travelers, high-end concierges, and pristine white-glove staff.

The crystal chandeliers reflected off the imported marble floors, casting an aura of timeless luxury across the expansive foyer.

The heavy glass entrance doors swung open, and Ethan and Patricia walked in, looking like they already owned every square inch of the property.

Ethan wore his finest charcoal suit, his posture rigid with misplaced confidence, while Patricia strutted beside him in a designer coat, her diamond rings catching the light.

They marched straight past the front desk toward the executive glass elevators leading to the General Manager’s office.

"Good morning, sir," the head concierge politely greeted them. "May I assist you?"

Patricia didn't even slow her stride. She waved her hand dismissively without making eye contact. "We don't need assistance. We are taking over corporate operations today. Notify the department heads that a general assembly is called for ten o'clock."

The concierge blinked in confusion, exchanging a subtle, worried look with the front desk manager, but Ethan and Patricia had already stepped into the executive elevator.

Inside the elevator, Ethan adjusted his tie in the mirrored wall, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.

"I told you she’d fold, Mom," Ethan boasted, shaking his head. "Madison has no spine. By noon, she’ll be calling me, crying and apologizing, begging me to come back home."

"Of course she will," Patricia replied smoothly, checking her reflection in her compact mirror. "She’s built for housekeeping, Ethan, not corporate leadership. Once we sign the operational management contracts today, we can reallocate twenty percent of the hotel's revenue stream to clear our quarterly lines at City National Bank."

"And what if her grandmother interferes?" Ethan asked, a brief shadow of doubt crossing his face.

"Eleanor is an old woman who just handed over a massive asset," Patricia scoffed, snapping her mirror shut. "She won't cause a scene in public. She cares too much about the Bennett reputation."

The elevator chimed softly as the doors slid open on the top floor, revealing the mahogany-paneled executive wing.

Ethan threw open the double doors of the Chief Executive Suite, expecting to find an empty desk waiting for his arrival.

Instead, he stopped dead in his tracks.

Sitting behind the massive walnut desk was not an empty chair.

Sitting there was Eleanor Bennett, wearing an exquisite navy suit, calmly sipping tea from a bone china cup.

And standing right beside her, wearing a tailored cream blazer, her hair styled with fierce elegance, was me.
