Chapter 5 - A Mother's Absolute Leverage

The defense lawyers didn't waste time trying to argue the corporate bylaws; they knew the Preston trust framework was an airtight fortress.

My father had built this company forty years ago, and he had explicitly written a clause that allowed the primary bloodline heir to dissolve the executive board if any act of familial betrayal compromised the company's integrity.

"Clara, please," Garrett stammered, stepping away from his lawyers as his knees began to look visibly weak.

"If the market opens and the news leaks that the CEO has been removed under a fraud investigation, the stock will crash to zero. We'll lose the suburban house, the luxury vehicles, everything."

"You already lost everything when you ignored eighteen desperate calls from a pediatric ICU, Garrett," I said, my voice completely unyielding.

"The house is registered under the corporate entity. The vehicles are leased under my firm. You have exactly thirty minutes to pack your personal belongings into a cardboard box."

Vanessa stepped back toward the door, her fingers frantically typing on her phone, trying to access the offshore accounts before the freeze took effect.

"The Swiss line is dead, Vanessa," the forensic accountant noted without looking up from his monitor.

"The federal district attorney issued an international freeze order three hours ago based on the encrypted data recovered from the penthouse suite."

The room became entirely silent, the proud, powerful executives who had spent years treating me like an inconvenient background figure suddenly looking like children caught in a storm.

They had mistaken my long-standing silence for permanent submission, never realizing that a mother who has nothing left to lose is the most dangerous adversary they would ever face.
