Chapter 5 - The Midnight Contradictions

By midnight, Isabella Rossi was officially processed into the Cook County municipal jail, her high-society status offering zero protection against federal grand jury warrants.

Arthur Vance, Marcus’s trusted head of logistics, had been intercepted at O'Hare Airport with a suitcase containing two million dollars in laundered bonds.

I sat beside Khloe’s hospital bed, holding her hand as the soft, rhythmic beeping of the fetal monitor filled the quiet room.

“Marcus,” Khloe whispered, her eyes slowly opening, her pale skin illuminated by the distant city lights outside the window.

“The baby... is he okay?”

“He’s fighting, corporate angel,” Marcus said, leaning down to press a gentle kiss against her forehead, completely ignoring the tears staining his own face.

“The Rossi family is finished, and Arthur will spend the rest of his natural life behind a steel door.”

The door to the suite opened quietly, and Detective Marcus Thorne walked in, carrying a sealed brown folder marked with the official state emblem.

“We found the secondary laboratory logs in Isabella’s apartment, Ms. Thorne,” the detective said, handing the files to Dr. Harrison Vance.

Dr. Vance scanned the medical report, his eyes widening with a sudden, sharp flash of absolute horror.
