Chapter 7 - The Sunrise Over the Coast

Six months later, the townhouse in Columbus was sold, and the memory of that terrifying kitchen was completely gone.

I stood on the wide wooden deck of a beautiful new home overlooking the coast of Maine, the ocean breeze clean and cold against my skin.

Chloe walked out onto the porch, handing me a fresh cup of coffee as the sun began to rise over the water.

The funds from Melissa’s estate had been legally recovered, and a permanent foundation had been established in her name to help women escape domestic vipers.

The broken plates and the burning cheek had dissolved into the past, leaving behind nothing but a profound sense of peace.

I looked out at the horizon, the streaks of gold and pink reflecting off the water in a brilliant display of a new dawn.

Ryan had believed that a single slap would break my spirit and make me compliant forever.

But he had failed to realize that when you strike an honest woman, you only shatter the glass that was hiding her true strength.

I took a slow sip of my coffee, turning back toward the warm, brightly lit kitchen where a real life was finally waiting for me.

The door closed behind us, and the silence this time was beautiful.
