Chapter 4 - The Range Rover Repossession

The morning sun broke over the suburban streets of Westchester County at exactly 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
Patricia Wilson was sitting in her formal dining room, nursing a cup of tea while looking at a certified letter delivered by a local courier.
The document carried the official seal of the mortgage processing department, stating that the primary account was now forty-eight hours past due.
Before she could call Jamal to demand an explanation, a loud, heavy mechanical grinding sound echoed from the front driveway.
Brittany ran to the large bay window, her perfectly styled hair falling into her face as she threw open the curtains.
A massive flatbed commercial tow truck was parked right behind Jamal’s silver Range Rover.
Two regional operators were already hooking heavy chains to the front axle, their orange safety vests bright against the winter snow.
"Jamal! Get out here!" Brittany shrieked, her voice cracking as she slammed the window glass. "Someone is stealing the car!"
Jamal rushed out onto the snow-covered porch in his designer sneakers, his face twisting with a sudden, frantic rage.
"Hey! Drop that vehicle!" he shouted, running down the icy steps. "That car is leased under a corporate executive account!"
The lead operator didn't look up from his chains; he simply handed Jamal a printed repossession authorization form carrying my company's official corporate seal.
"The lease was officially terminated by the primary owner at midnight on Thursday, sir," the driver said coldly.
"We have strict instructions to return the vehicle to the regional center immediately. Step back from the platform."

Patricia stood on the porch, her white cashmere sweater offering no protection against the freezing wind as she watched the luxury SUV get dragged down the street.
The country club friends she had bragged to for years were driving past, their windows rolling down as they witnessed the grand matriarch’s family empire vanish into the snow.
