Chapter 5 - Unraveling the Estate’s Legacy

The weeks leading up to my delivery date were a blur of legal depositions, forensic bank audits, and structural changes at the Preston family logistics firm.

With Doña Victoria held without bail at the county detention facility, the true legal documents hidden inside her mansion began to surface under the federal search warrants.

Alejandro stayed by my side through every doctor's appointment, his presence an unbreakable wall that kept the remaining family vultures at bay.

The medical records that Victoria had forged to show "emotional instability" were officially expelled from the court registry, replaced by certified evaluations from independent hospital specialists who verified that my pregnancy was progressing perfectly.

On a quiet Tuesday afternoon, the forensic accounting team delivered the final summary of the estate's true valuation to our kitchen table.

My father's original trust—the one Victoria had claimed was entirely empty—contained over four million dollars in real estate holdings and legacy stock options that had been systematically hidden behind shell companies registered in Delaware.

"She spent thirty years pretending she was the one funding this family's lifestyle," Alejandro said, turning over the original deeds that carried my father's legal signature from decades ago. "In reality, she was just an administrator who learned how to manipulate the paperwork while everyone else was looking away."

"It doesn't matter anymore, Alejandro," I said, looking out the window at the peaceful backyard where a new oak cradle was currently being assembled. "The money can stay in the trust for the baby. I just want the name cleared."

"It's already cleared, Elena," he said, leaning down to kiss my temple. "The trial is set for next Monday. And after that, she will never be able to look at this family again."
