Chapter 7 - The Unseen Enemy

Days turned into weeks.
The trial for Victoria Thorne was looming.
I spent my time documenting everything.
I kept a journal of every threat, every late-night phone call, every shadowy figure near my friend’s apartment.
I was no longer just a victim.
I was a witness.
And I was ready.
Then, a knock came at the door.
It wasn't the police.
It was a representative from the Thorne estate.
He held a suitcase.
"A gift," he said.
"I don't want it."
"It's from Arthur."
I opened it.
It was full of clothes, books, and the few mementos I had left behind in my haste.
There was a note on top.
“I didn't know. Come home when you're ready.”
I stared at the note.
Arthur was finally seeing the truth.
But it was too little, too late.
I took the suitcase, but I didn't take the invitation.
I knew that house was built on rot.
May you like
And I wouldn't be returning to the Thorne empire.
Ever.
