Chapter 2 - THE TACTICAL ALLIANCE

The silence on the other end of the line was absolute, heavy with the weight of decades of unspoken family understanding.
Arturo did not interrupt me as I detailed the clinical state of my mother's body—the split lip, the swelling orbital bone, and the deep purple finger marks that wrapped around her throat like a physical execution order.
I spoke with the flat, emotionless tone of a veteran integrity investigator who had seen the worst of institutional corruption, but inside my chest, the ice had grown into an unbreakable iron resolve.
"The Westbridge precinct built their entire foundation on public relations, small-town nepotism, and institutional protection, Evelyn," Arturo said, his voice dropping into a lethal, quiet frequency that signaled the immediate activation of his legal network.
"They believe that because Captain Ross controls the local municipal files, they can treat an assault like an inconvenient family dispute."
"But they have forgotten who our father was, and they have forgotten the kind of ledgers we keep."
"I don't want a standard internal affairs review, Arturo," I replied, my eyes fixed on my mother's hand where the crude metal handcuffs bit relentlessly into her fragile, aging skin.
"I want the total, systematic liquidation of their authority."
"I want Dana in a high-security detention facility, and I want Michael stripped of every single asset he attempted to protect by watching his mother get thrown against that wall."
"The forensic team is already pulling the corporate registries for Dana's family businesses," Arturo confirmed, the sound of his laptop keyboard clicking sharply through the speaker.
"We are going to execute a federal audit on their public funding accounts before the market opens on Monday morning."

"They wanted an invisible daughter, Evelyn."
"Now, they are about to discover that the invisible daughter owns the ledger."
