Chapter 7 - A Debt Paid in Full

Six months later, the morning sun broke warm and golden over the floor-to-ceiling windows of the primary lecture hall at Pittsburgh Medical University.

Paige Lawson sat in the front row, wearing a pristine white lab coat, her nursing textbook open on a real wooden desk—her own desk—in her new private apartment overlooking the river.

Her mother’s $180,000 medical debt was gone.

The day after Monica’s arrest, Corbin Valleti’s private legal trust had quietly acquired the entire debt portfolio from the hospital network, executing a total, unappealable cancellation notice.

Furthermore, the Valleti Educational Foundation had established a full, four-year merit scholarship in Paige’s name, covering her entire medical tuition, living expenses, and research stipends.

Monica Valleti had been convicted of attempted murder and corporate conspiracy, receiving a twenty-five-year sentence at a federal correctional facility without the possibility of early parole, while her father’s gambling debt resulted in the complete liquidation of his remaining assets.

Tristan Valleti had made a full physical recovery, stepping away from the family’s high-society drama to manage the Valleti family's legitimate charitable trusts.

A quiet knock sounded at the edge of the lecture hall door.

Corbin Valleti stood in the hallway wearing a dark grey suit, holding two cups of hot coffee, a subtle, genuine smile touching his sharp features as Paige walked out to meet him.

"Good morning, Dr. Lawson," Corbin teased gently, handing her a coffee cup.

"I'm still just a nursing student, Corbin," Paige smiled, taking a warm sip.

"Not for long," Corbin replied, looking at her with deep, undeniable respect. "My mother sent this for you."

He pulled a small velvet box from his coat pocket and handed it to her.

Paige opened it. Inside lay a delicate silver necklace featuring a tiny, polished panna cotta leaf design, accompanied by a handwritten card from Lorraine Valleti:

To the woman who saw me when everyone else looked away. Thank you for my life.

Paige looked up at the bright blue sky above the university campus, feeling a deep, unbreakable sense of peace settle over her heart.

She had spent four years being invisible, working eleven dollars an hour in the shadows of wealthy people who never knew her name.

But she had proven that honor, courage, and truth weren't things you could buy with champagne or hide behind white marble.

Paige took Corbin’s arm, stepping into the warm morning light, knowing that her life was finally, beautifully, completely her own.
