The legal execution of the Cross Group’s asset recovery strategy began exactly at 9:00 a.m. the following Monday.
Tyler sat at the head of his new corporate office desk, his crisp blue suit tailored perfectly to project a confidence he didn't actually possess.
Vanessa sat on the leather sofa near the window, her manicured fingers scrolling lazily through a luxury real estate catalog.
"The agreement is ironclad, Tyler," she said, her voice dripping with the same lazy sarcasm she had used on our anniversary night.
"Claire took her small-scale settlement, and she vanished without leaving a single trace of her bank routing coordinates."
"She’s insignificant, Vanessa," Tyler muttered, tossing a pile of promotional brochures into his leather portfolio.
Suddenly, the glass office doors swung open with a loud, echoey thud that shook the recessed lighting fixtures overhead.
Marcus Bell, my newly appointed corporate attorney, stepped into the room, followed immediately by two senior compliance inspectors.
He placed a thick, gold-embossed folder directly onto Tyler's polished desk, his face fixed in a grim, unyielding mask.
"Mr. Vance," Marcus announced, his voice carrying clearly through the silent room. "Your logistical licensing is officially frozen."
"What are you talking about?" Tyler snapped, standing up so fast his chair rattled against the glass partition.
"My firm holds the primary transportation permits for the entire northern corridor under a clean municipal grant."
"The grant was financed by a secondary loan from the Vanguard Trust Group, Mr. Vance," Marcus explained calmly.
"And Vanguard was quietly purchased by a private estate registry at midnight yesterday."
He opened the folder, revealing forty pages of unredacted transaction logs that showed Tyler’s recent cash withdrawals.
