Part 3: The Signature Deficit

The office grew suffocatingly cold as Vanessa stood up, her catalog slipping from her hand and clattering against the floor.

"This is an absolute farce!" she shrieked, her face turning an ugly shade of ash as she read the red alert text on her screen.

"Tyler’s family name has been on those utility easements for five years! You can't just execute an emergency receivership!"

"The easements don't belong to the Vance family, Vanessa," I said, stepping into the office doorway from the corridor.

I wore a structured wool coat over my gold dress, my posture tall and my mind entirely focused on the numerical alignment.

Tyler’s jaw dropped, his eyes widening into disks of pure, desperate horror as he looked at my rounded silhouette.

"Claire..." he stammered, his hand shaking as he gripped the edge of his mahogany desk. "You... you're pregnant."

"The child carries the Cross bloodline, Tyler," I said, my voice dropping into a flat, clinical whisper that cut through his panic.

"The bloodline of the man whose family owns the master grid you used to route your unlicensed logistics transfers."

Julian Cross walked into the room behind me, his broad shoulders filling the doorway as his dark eyes locked onto Tyler.

The relaxed, arrogant confidence Tyler had worn like a weapon collapsed entirely under the weight of Julian’s presence.

"Your defense team submitted a forged power of attorney to the city zoning board last winter," Julian stated.

"They used Claire's old electronic signature from her community college tuition waiver to authorize the construction line."

"The forensic screen completed at 2:00 a.m. today proved the signature was lifted and cloned," he added coldly.
